What to expect from our classes:

Classes begin with basic yoga postures and karate movements to stretch the muscles and warm up the body. We move into floor movement exercises for cardio and then work on our karate and Yokara katas. The Yokara kata incorporates martial arts and yoga techniques.

Yokara is a belted system and you will advance through the levels as your knowledge of the forms and techniques grows. Our classes finish with "quiet time" to bring calm and focus.

You will need to bring a yoga mat, water bottle and your laughter.

For registration please contact Tracey Emerick at southnanaimo@shimakarate.com or call 250.619.8497

CLASSES MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED

THERE ARE 4 ELEMENTS THAT WE FOCUS ON

First is the Body

A healthy image means that you feel comfortable in your body - it's an integral part of who you are! It also means you have an understanding of how to take care of yourself. You are energized and are able to do the things you want to do. It means resisting the pressure to try to attain the unattainable "perfect" body and to find ways that make you feel good about yourself.

Second is the Mind

Building confidence is one of the first steps to a healthy mind. Take time for yourself and participate in activities that build your self-esteem. Be patient with yourself too, as it takes time to undo old habits and re-learn new attitudes. Learning to accept a compliment is a step in the right direction. Try to just say "Thank-you" the next time someone compliments you, just Thank-you.

Third is the Spirit

A healthy spirit is defined in many ways. For some it is a sense of wholeness, a peace and inner calm or a knowing of something far greater and more wonderful than what is in front of us. While we do spend some "quiet time" in Yokara we do not define how you spend this time, we let you define your spiritual journey. What we do advocate though is laughter... practice this every day, it really is the best medicine.

Fourth is Balance

Balancing our lives takes discipline and we can easily get caught up in the rush of life and forget to do the things that we know are important to our body, mind and spirit. Take the time to get to know who you are, what makes you really happy, and learn to balance what you can and cannot change about yourself. Be at peace with yourself.
