Coen Francis - Shodan-ho 2018

I was born on December 24, 2002 in Kingston Ontario. I lived there up until the age of 7 and then moved to Nanaimo. I attended École Hammond Bay elementary until grade 7 and then attended Dover Bay secondary where I am currently going into grade 11. After high school, I plan on pursuing a degree in engineering.

Alongside Karate, I like to rock climb, play music, and race hobby rc. I first started karate in 2007 at the age of five when my parents signed me up because they thought it would help me focus in school.

 

For The first three years I trained at Tallac martial arts, a school headed by Sensei Ken Tallack who is 9th Dan in his style.
When I moved to Nanaimo, I trained with Sensei Maximchuk at the Lansville dojo until it's closing in 2011.

 

I then began training at the Nanaimo Dojo with Sensei Kurt Nordliand have remained there since.
