Shannon Scarisbrick
Shodan-ho 2021

Shannon moved to Nanaimo, BC in 2001 after completing a Bachelor of Music at the University of Lethbridge. She attended Malaspina University-College in Nanaimo, completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Distinction in 2005. Shannon completed a Master of Nursing at the University of Victoria in 2015.

 

Shannon has worked as a Registered Nurse at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital since 2005 as a Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit staff nurse, as the Clinical Nurse Educator for Paediatrics, and most recently as they Nurse Clinician for the Paediatric Inpatient unit.

 

She was an active member of the local army cadet corps in Lethbridge AB as a youth, and enrolled in the Canadian Forces as an officer in the Cadet Instructor Cadre in 1999. She has worked with army cadets since that time, in both Lethbridge and Nanaimo. She is currently the Administration Officer for 2422 RCACC in Nanaimo.

 

Shannon began training in Goju-Ryu Karate at Shima Karate in the fall of 2017, when the opportunity to join a women’s class arose. She had spent many hours in the lobby of Shima, and cheering on her daughter at karate tournaments before deciding to join class. Since becoming a student she has competed in several karate tournaments in both individual kata and team kata.

 

Shannon lives with her husband and daughter in Nanaimo. In addition to karate, she enjoys yoga, running, swimming and hiking. She has completed several half-marathons, 15 km and 10 km road and trail races and two sprint triathlons.
