Ocea Fawkes

              My name is Ocea Fawkes, a 16 year old athlete who was born and raised on the island. I have been doing karate since 2012 here at shima and have been on a bike since I was even younger. I’ve been racing enduro and cyclocross for a few years along with karate. Finding both of these sports complement each other when it comes to becoming stronger and helping me have a more balanced life. When the trails get too snowy in the winter I enjoy skiing at mount Washington too.

             When I’m not on my bike or in the dojo I will be out doing art or some type of music. During the school year I’m a part of my school's senior concert band as a saxophonist. And also a singer who just started to perform at open mics with my guitar locally. But when it comes to art I enjoy sketching and painting with new mediums; this includes painting a mural for my school and skateboard decks in my spare time. At school this coming year I Will be taking the International baccalaureate diploma for grade 11 and 12  and completing my silver Duke of Edinburgh award. Throughout my last year of school in grade 10 I completed my bronze Duke of Edinburgh, got on honor roll, and the athlete scholarship award. It can get busy and stressful and times with school work and races but I truly enjoy every last experience and opportunity this gives me and shows me the benefits to working hard and having a balanced life.
