Oliver Hilderley
Shodan-ho 2021

I was born on October 10th 2006 in Vancouver. My family moved to Lantzville when I was 6 months old.

I started karate in September of 2011 and originally went to Sensei Maximchuk’s dojo in Lantzville before its closure shortly after I joined.

Ever since then I have gone to Shima Karate in Nanaimo.
I first started doing tournaments in 2014, and continued to compete in them until 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic began. During my time competing I competed in provincials six times, bringing home gold, silver, or bronze medals in nearly all of them.

I have also recently completed my certification to become a referee in any future events after the pandemic.
Outside of karate, I have enjoyed playing many other sports such as, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. None of them have had nearly as big of an impact on my life as karate has,

I look forward to where karate will take me next.
