Shodan-ho 2015

I was born in Nanaimo in 1999 and grew up in Lantzville where I now live with my parents, brother. I attended French Emersion at Ecole Hammond Bay elementary School until grade five then moved to Aspengrove school until grade nine. This fall I will be going into grade 11 at Dover Bay Secondary School and will continue to focus on getting good grades.

Along with karate, I also enjoy horseback riding, rock climbing, skiing, water sports, fishing, traveling and spending time with friends and family. For the past 3 years I have attended Ignite Athletic Development and in 2013 I was a finalist for the Nanaimo Athlete of the year award.

I first began Karate in 2004 at the age of five at Lantzville Shima Karate School. There I trained with Sensei Maximchuk for many years and achieved white to my blue belt. It unfortunately closed in 2011. Luckily I was able to move to the Nanaimo Dojo where I currently train with Sensei Nordli and have been working towards my black belt in Goju Ryu.

In the past few years I have competed in many karate competitions all over Vancouver Island and the Mainland. In 2012 I competed at the B.C. Winter Games in Vernon and achieved a bronze and a gold medal. I also medaled at the 2012 Jr Olympics in Las Vegas. Unfortunately I received a bad concussion which has prevented me from sparing at full speed ever again. Luckily I am still able to compete in Kata. Just last year I was fortunate enough to be a member of the BC Team and was able to compete in the 2014 Canadian Nationals.

I am grateful to all the Senseis, coaches, team mates, friends and family that have encouraged me along the way to always do my personal best and focus on my goals. Thanks You!
