Skyla Schidlowsky

I was born October 15th, 1999 in the Nanaimo general hospital. I am a born and raised island girl. I was always that kid that was always doing sports, I did soccer, rock climbing, gymnastics, basketball, and volleyball. In the summers I went to a summer camp and they did numerous activities. One day we went to Shima Karate and I instantly fell in love with it. When I found out that some of my friends were doing karate I jumped at the opportunity to do it with them.

I went to Seaview Elementary school and I currently am attending Dover Bay secondary. I am going into grade 12 and I am an honor roll student. I am also doing dance as another sport while I am doing karate. I love to participate in other sports such as swimming, rowing, and hiking.

When I got my brown belt black stripe I got the opportunity to teach the samurais and juniors. As I have had my black belt I have been able to work more with the samurais and I love it so much. I have also gotten the opportunity to compete in many tournaments. I have made it to provincials three years in a row in the categories of kata and kumite. I have also made it to provincials and selections with a team kata and bunkai.

My plans have recently changed with the sports that I am doing. I have decided to do dance for my last year of school instead of karate. I do plan to keep coming back to karate and visit and help out as much as I can. I also plan on going to VIU in hopes to enroll in sciences.
