Shodan-ho 2015

My name is Zahnil Lal and I am resident of Nanaimo since I was born at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital to parents Umesh and Daksha Lal. I have an older sibling, Sempai Shahil Lal; you can find his profile on the Shima website as well. I attended Uplands Park Elementary School from Kindergarten to grade 7, and I am currently a student at Wellington Secondary. After I graduate I wish to study medical science at a post secondary institution.

I have been doing karate for over 9 years, and every moment of it has been worth it. I first got introduced to karate from my brother. I was attending one of his gradings, and when they first started doing their techniques, I instantly wanted to try it. Ever since then I have been training hard and now the ultimate goal is within reach, getting my black belt.

Karate has influenced my life in more ways than I can imagine. In school, it has taught me a variety of different work ethics, and also to be patient with problems I cannot solve right away. At home, it has taught me to take responsibility for my actions, and to have increased reliability inside and outside of my home. It has also shaped me into the person I am today.

Without karate, I don't know who I would be as a person, and what I would be doing at this point of my life. Karate isn't just a sport to me, it is a lifestyle. It has introduced me to new, interesting, and very funny friends, from Nanaimo, and Lantzvllle.

Training allows me to forget what is happening in the chaos of the world and life and to simply have fun while training, teaching, or being taught by one of the Sempai's or by Sensei
